Salaam Alaikum,

What is the view of Sayyid al-Khoei r.a when it comes to the analysis of the hadith surrounding the incident of the burning of the door of Sayyida Fatima s.a by Umar and Qunfud by the order of Abu Bakr and the subsequent taking of Imam Ali a.s in chains to the masjid to pledge allegiance to Abu Bakr?
I have done much research on this issue and have found a lot of issues with the authenticity and the plausibility of such events that they took place. As I am a religious speaker who gives talk, it is important for me to be comfortable that what I am saying is valid, therefore it is important for me to know about the view of Sayyid al-Khoei r.a given he is of the greatest experts in the field of hadith studies, on this issue.

Thank you,
Wsalaam

As Salaamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatuh,

We hope this answer reaches you in good health and Islamic spirit.

Based on your specific question and information provided.

This is not a Fiqh / Jurisprudence question. No Taqlid in Fundamental of Faith ( Aqidah), Ethics or History. In this case, this was a public event /Tragedy. Kindly, read the Islamic History written by Muslims. There is difference in authentication of the sayings of the Ma’sūmīn ( infallible ) and drawing conclusions from Historical / public events. You would need to research Shia and non Shia narratives of the Tragedy, and review the views of the Shia and Non Shia Scholars and formulate your opinion.

Jurists are experts in Fiqh / Jurisprudence and employ different methodologies, criterion , very conservative and strict rules in determining what could be Allah(awj) law in terms of Salat. Fasting, Zakat, Hajj..or Haram, Halal and Mubah.  Theologians are experts in Theology, more of a conceptual approach. Historians are experts in History. These fields require different tools,  approaches, expertise and ways of drawing conclusions.

We will offer you some assistance in your research as you have asked for a view of Sayyid Al-Khoei.

Here is the rough translation of the above in English.

Q 980: Are the narrations mentioned by the preachers of the pulpit and some writers about (Umar) breaking the rib of Lady Fatimah (peace be upon her) true in your opinion?

Al-Khoei: That is مشهور (popular/famous) and معروف (well-known), and God knows best

Sirat al-Najat (The Path of Salvation) – Mirza Jawad Tabrizi – Part 3 – Page 314

Sheikh Jawad Kubar Tabrizi ( Marja-e-Taqlid) , a prominent student  of Sayyid Al-Khoei recorded the above answer from Sayyid Al-Khoei in his book Sirat al-Najat.

You have said that I was dragged like a camel with a nose string to swear allegiance (to Abu Bakr at Saqifah). By the Eternal Allah, you had intended to revile me but you have praised me, and to humiliate me but have yourself been humiliated. What humiliation does it mean for a Muslim to be the victim of oppression so long as he does not entertain any doubt in his religion, nor any misgiving in his firm belief! This argument of mine is intended for others, but I have stated it to you only in so far as it was appropriate.
