Salaamalaykum Warahmatullah,
I am a Muslim from the western world (USA). I had a few questions. As a Muslim and a police officer, what are the rules when it comes to protecting an innocent person from someone who is a possible threat? For instance, if there is an innocent person and they could be killed by an aggressor. Can I protect them even if it causes serious harm, even death to the aggressor? And at what stage can I make this call? Do I act to stop them once I fear they may harm them? Or can I only act once they are actively harming them (I.e. shooting at them, running at them with a weapon)? And if I stepped in to stop them and the aggressor dies in the process, will Allah SWT judge me based off my intentions? After all, no sane soul would want to kill someone intentionally. I could use some advice on these matters

Thank you
