Assalamualaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh,
Our son is getting married to a Christian girl without converting her to Islam. We as a family do not want to force convert her to Islam and would like to wait till he gets guidance to accept Islam by herself.
This marriage will take place in the City Clerk’s office in (Edit WEST) on the (Edit) October. As parents, we seek your guidance and advice on how to validate this marriage as per Shariah.
Myself and my wife is residing in (Edit EAST) and would be visiting (edit)to attend this marriage.
Your advice is highly appreciated.

We will provide you with general guidance regarding the institution of Marriage and Marriage contract.
The Islamic Scholars have divided the Islamic teachings in three parts.Fundamental of Faith ( Belief / Aqidah), Islamic Ethics / Morals, and Islamic Law/ Fiqh / Jurisprudence. The “Institution of Marriage” is covered by all three. The “Marriage Contract” is cover by Islamic Fiqh/ Jurisprudence.
From Jurisprudence Perspective:
Permanent Marriage Contract – of a Muslim with Ahl-e-Kithab woman, is Not permissible ( Haram) [ Obligatory Precaution](*).
(*) You may either act on this precaution which is an obligatory precaution (ihtiyat wajib) or you may act on the judgment of another jurist ( Marji).

Regarding the Institution of Marriage:
Marriage is among the highly recommended deeds. The Prophet has said, “Whosoever marries, he has protected half of his religion.” He also said, “Whoever likes to follow my tradition, then [he should know that] marriage is of my tradition.” In another hadith, he said, “No Muslim man has gained a benefit besides Islam better than a Muslim wife who is a source of his pleasure whenever he looks at her, who obeys him when he commands her, and remains faithful to him when he is away.”
Man should give importance to the qualities of the woman he would like to marry. He should not marry except a woman who is chaste, honourable, of good lineage, and righteous. She should be a source of help to him in the affairs of this world and the hereafter.
Man should not confine his choice to the woman’s physical beauty and wealth. It has been narrated from the Prophet (s.a.w.) that he said, “O People! Beware of the green grass [growing] in a waste site.” Someone asked, “O Messenger of Allah! And what is the green grass in a waste site?” He replied, “A beautiful woman in an evil environment.”
