If one only says “Salam” without the “Alaykum”, does the receiver have to reply with “Alaykum Salam”?
أعوذ بالله من الشيطان الرجيم
بِسْمِ ٱللَّٰهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
As Salaamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatuh,
We hope this answer reaches you in good health and Islamic spirit.
Based on your specific question and information provided.
From the Fiqh / Jurisprudence perspective:
If someone says salam to one who is in Salat, the reply must be given exactly as it was originally worded.
In normal circumstances you can reply with a better greeting.
والله العالم
(and Allah(awj) Knows best)
