Assalamu Alaikum. I wanted to ask about a dream I had, and I’d appreciate honest guidance rather than reassurance.
I am Sunni but have long felt drawn to love of Ahle Bayt, and often listen to Shia scholars online. I had a strong urge to search for my real family lineage, and made dua about it using Ahle Bayt supplications — Dua-e-Ahad, Dua-e-Faraj, Ziyarat-e-Waritha, Ziyarat-e-Ashura, Nad-e-Ali, Tasbih of Bibi Fatima, Dua of Prophet Yunus, and Salawat — recited mostly before sleep and after Fajr, especially during Ramadan.
On 13 March 2026 (23–24 Ramadan 1448H), I had a vivid dream in which I saw the name “Syed [my name] Hussain Rizvi” written in bold red letters on a white wall. I felt a strong sense of divine presence guiding me, and deep peace afterward. I still remember the dream clearly months later.
My family has an oral history of an ancestor migrating from Khurasan to India roughly 250–300 years ago as a child, but we have no documentation. We also observe a few customs common among Syed/Shia families, which elders explain only as “our forefathers used to do the same.”
My question: According to Ja’fari fiqh, does an experience like this — a vivid dream following sincere dua, combined with family oral history and customs — carry any real religious weight toward establishing a lineage claim, or is documented evidence always required regardless? Jazakallah Khair.
