Salam,
My family was wondering if it is okay to eat food including meat prepared by the christian or Jew.
My dad was saying that he heard back in the time of Prophet Muhammad (saw) people used to eat with jewish and christian when they went to their houses and no one asked if that meat was halal or haram or who cutted the meat or prepared it. So he saying why its not okay to go to christian’s house and eat food (meat or not) prepared by them in western countries.
Please explain so i can tell him.

We hope this answer finds you in high Islamic spirit.
We are not sure about what your father is saying. According to the fiqh jurisprudence, the meat allowed to be eaten has to be slaughtered according to Islamic law. One of the four conditions is the person who slaughtered the meat has to be a Muslim.
