The month of Jamadiul Thaniyah (a.k.a. Jamadiul
Ukhraa) is the month associated with Hadhrat
Fatimatu Zahra AS. On 2nd Jamadiul Thaniyah 11 AH,
her injuries proved fatal as the pain intensified
and on 3rd Jamadiul Thani 11 AH (barely three
months after the passing away of The Prophet SAWW),
she passed away succumbing to the injury caused by
the door of her house falling upon her and
crushing her between the door and the wall where
she stood to plead to the Caliph’s men not to set
her house on fire. Her pleas fell on deaf ears and
fire was set to her door that caused the tragedy.
This dastardly deed resulted in two murders, that
of the child in Fatima AS’ womb, Muhsin, and that
of Fatima AS herself. This incident has been
recorded in both Sunni and Shi’a books and names
were named of the perpetrators of this crime
against The Prophet SAWW’s only daughter, about
whom there is The Prophet SAWW’s declarations that
“Fatima is part and parcel of me (Badh’atu minni)
and whosever displeases her, displeases me and
whosever displeases me displeases ALLAH SWT and
whosoever displeases ALLAH SWT goes to Hell.”
What had Fatima AS’ done to deserve this fate at
the hands of the claimants to her father’s mantle?
Nothing, except that she was The Prophet SAWW’s
daughter and wife of Amirul Mu.miniin Ali Ibni Abi
Talib AS, the legitimate immediate successor of
The Prophet SAWW. Imam Ali AS refused to pledge
allegiance to the Caliph “elected” at Saqifa Bani
Sai’da. So, to force him to pledge allegiance, the
Caliph’s men came to the house of Fatima AS to
drag the Imam AS out of the house or set the house
on fire.
Jamadiul Thaniyah also bears the joyous day of
Hadhrat Fatima AS’ birth-date. The 20th of
Jamadiul Thani 5 years before Bi’that (Public
Proclamation by The Prophet SAWW of his Divine
Mission, Al-Islam). Hadhrat Fatima AS’ mother,
Hadhrat Khadija AS had forsaken the world and her
wealth to marry The Prophet SAWW and had incurred
the wrath of the women of Makkah who refused to
come to help her deliver her baby. However, ALLAH
SWT did not leave her alone. He sent Sayyidah
Hawwa AS, Sayyidah Maryam AS Sayyidah Sarah AS and
Sayyidah Asiya AS to help in the delivery. It was
only appropriate that Sayyidati Nisaail 'Alamiin
AS should be delivered into this world by these
holy women, wives of prophets of yore and the
righteous wife of the Pharaoh for she was the
focus of Ayatut Tathiir (Verse of Divine
Purification, 33:33).
Other occasions worth citing in this month include
the departure from Madinah of The Prophet SAWW
towards Khaybar on 12th, in 8 AH. Khaybar was a
township 90 miles north of Madinah, a settlement
of Jews who had instigated the Arab tribes to
attack the Muslims of Madinah thinking that the
Treaty of Hudaibiyyah of 6 AH was “surrender” of
Muslims and their incipient decline. Marauding
Ghatafan tribesmen killed the son of Hadhrat
Abidhar Al-Ghiffari and kidnapped his wife, who,
however, was rescued by a party of brave Muslims.
The Prophet SAWW wanted to prevent further
marauding and siege of Madinah and marched towards
Khaybar. The Jews had built eight fortresses; the
strongest of them was al-Qamus. The garrison was
led by the famous warrior Merhab who faced Imam
Ali Ibni Talib AS in the battle that ensued and
was killed. Imam Ali AS also lifted the heavy
metal gate of Khaybar fortress single-handedly and
when asked how he managed to do that he said it
was not through his physical prowess but by
spiritual strength from ALLAH SWT. It was at
Khaybar that Ja’far Ibni Abi Talib who had
migrated to Abyssinia came back and The Prophet
SAWW was so pleased to see him that he said he
could not tell which was the greater victory;
conquest of Khaybar or the return of Ja’far. Near
Khaybar there was another Jewish settlement, Fadak.
The inhabitants of Fadak voluntarily surrendered
and gifted the estate to The Prophet SAWW as his
private property which, through Divine command,
The Prophet SAWW gifted to Fatima AS, his Qurba.
This Fadak was confiscated by the Saqifa Caliphs,
claiming that prophets do not leave inheritance, a
claim proven wrong by Quranic verses. Fatima AS
was deprived of her own property while Ayesha was
given possession of The Prophet SAWW’s house as
inheritance!!!! Ayesha allowed the burial of her
father Abu Bakr and Umar, yet denied burial space
therein to The Prophet SAWW’s own grandson, Imam
Hassan Al-Mujtaba AS.
On 10th Jamadiul Thaniyah, 8 AH, Hadhrat Ja’far
Al-Tayyar, Ja’far ibni Abi talib AS was martyred
in the Battle of Moota.
On 13 Jamadiul Thaniyah, 64 AH, the mother
of Hadhrat Abul Fadhlil Abbas AS, the Commander of
the stalwarts of Karbala, Seyyidah Fatimah
Kilabiyyah, known as Ummul Baniin, died in Madinah
and was buried in Jannnatul Baqui’i.
15th Jamadiul Thaniyah 38 AH is also
considered to be the day of the wiladah of Imam
Zainul Abidiin AS.
21st Jamadiul Thaniyah is marked as the day
Imam Ali Ibni Abi Talib AS, the ruling Caliph of
the time, returned to Madinah from Basrah, after
the Battle of Jamal that Ayesha fought against
him. On this date, in 61 AH, four months after
returning to Madinah from Karbala, the sister of
Imam Hussein AS, Seyyida Umm Kulthum Binti Amiril
Mu.miniin AS (Zainab Al-Sughra) died in Madinah.
26th Jamadiul Thaniyah is reckoned as one
of the dates marking the martyrdom of our Tenth
Imam, Hadhrat Imam Ali Al-Hadi AS.
27th Jamadiul Thaniyah 116 AH, Seyyid
Sultan Ali, a son of Imam Muhammad Al-Baqir AS,
was martyred.
29th Jamadiul Thaniyah, Salman Al-Farsi Al-Muhammadi
AS arrived at the house of The Prophet SAWW who
taught him the twenty rak’ah salaat of the month
of Rajabul Murajjab.
Imam Al-Khoei Islamic Center, New York will
commemorate the Shahadah of Seyyidati Nisaail
‘Alamiin AS on Thursday, May 28, 2009 commencing
7:00 PM, the actual day of 3rd Jamadiul Thaniyah.
The special Ziyarah of this Day will be recited
before ghuroob, followed by Salaatul Maghribayn
and Thursday night activity.
The Celebrations of the
Wiladah of Sayyidah Fatimatu Zahra AS will be on
Saturday, June 13 2009, the eve of 20th of
Jamadiul Thaniyah, after Salaatul Maghribain which
commences at 8:44 PM.

Q: When a husband returns from a journey and
his wife greets him with hugs and kisses at public
places like airports or railway stations. Is that
permissible?
A: Yes, provided she is in proper hijab,
though modesty demands that she does not do so in
public.
Q: Can one pray just two rak’ah salaat for the
maghfirah of more than one person?
A: Yes, s/he can.
Q: My father is alhamdullilah alive but not in
a very good health therefore cannot fast. I don't
have any qaza fasts, mashaallah, can I fast on his
behalf while he is alive as he used to fast
regularly for most of his life as long as he was
healthy.
A: No, you cannot, because when a person is unable
to fast because of difficulty in old age or
continual illness s/he pays fidya for every missed
obligatory fast in his lifetime.
Q: I would like to know what should be our
response to the recent outbreak and perhaps
pandemic swine flu. What is the correct attitude
we should take?
A: Muslims must take all health-related
precautions, seek medical help if infected and
pray to ALLAH SWT to ward off the epidemic and
seek protection against it.
Q: Frequently, I have doubts in namaaz. It has
got so bad that I repray my namaaz many times
over. If I do not repray it, then I feel a sense
of unhappiness. I have read the ruling on this in
the laws of Ayatullah Sistani that if one doubts
once in every three prayers then he or she should
ignore this doubt. I have started to act on this
and it’s working to a certain extent. But how do I
begin to make myself feel better and or confident
that the namaaz I have recited is valid? Second,
regarding najasat. I know this a large topic. But,
again, it’s an area I need help. Many a times, I
feel I over read into things and it gets to a
point where I feel so unsettled that it leads to
more showers, giving lots of clothes to wash, my
wife getting upset and so forth. I have read the
rules in Agha Sistani's book and again while I act
according to them, I still feel unsettled.
A: You are kathiru sshak (frequent doubter). So,
your doubts are invalid. Such doubts should be
ignored sans any sense of guilt. As long as you
have done the salaat and removed najasah as
required by the Shari’ah, have faith in ALLAH
SWT’s Mercy and Generosity to accept them.
Q: 1) Is income from salary (job) and Income
from stocks (share trading) considered a single
business and loss of income in Stock trading
compensated with Salary income to calculate the
net Income.
A: Khums is paid on net savings of up to one year
after all legitimate expenses have been paid out.
This saving/income should be available to the
person as and when s/he wants it and not
restricted to withdrawal conditions of time etc.
Q: I have purchased stocks with Khums paid
amount. At the end of the year I have not sold the
stocks. I am holding it, but the market value is
increased. Do I have to pay khums on the
difference between current market value and
purchased value or I can wait till I sell the
stocks.
A: As long as you do not have actual increase of
income in your possession per se, khums is not yet
applicable on that amount.
Q: Do I have to pay khums on Life insurance
premiums.
A: Life Insurance, car insurance etc. are
considered part of deductible legitimate expenses
from the income of the year.
Q: For property which is purchased for rented
income or for investment, do I have to pay khums
at the end of the year depending upon its market
value and purchased price or should I pay it when
I sell it.
A: If the property was purchased with money on
which khums was already paid, then the actual
income derived from rent or investment which is
included in the net income for the year will be
liable to khums.

HEART-RENDING ELEGY OF HADHRAT FATIMATU ZZAHRAA
AS AFTER THE PASSING AWAY OF THE PROPHET SAWW:
“The person who smells the sweet fragrance of the
grave of The Prophet SAWW minds not if he does not
smell any other fragrance for a long time.
Grief afflicted me in such a manner that had it
struck bright days they would have
turned into dark nights.
The dust of sorrow has covered the heavens, the
sun has faded and bright day has
turned dark after the passing away of The Prophet.
Alas! How gloomy the earth has become at being
separated from The Prophet.
It behooves the east and the west to weep upon The
Prophet at his parting and all the
Muzzir and Yemeni tribes weep at this loss.
All the mountains, concealed or seen, and the
pillars of the covered Ka’bah shed tears upon the
last and final of the series of prophets whose
light is the source of blessing for the denizens
of this world.
Salutations and Blessings of Allah be upon the
recipient of The Qur’an.
Following your departure, inequity, intrigues and
revolts have erupted and our condition is like the
earth devoid of beneficial rain. Your people have
upset the order and discipline. So, be a witness
and do not let their doings go unnoticed.”

SAYYIDAH FATIMAH (A.S) The
followers of Imam Ali Ibni Talib AS have always
had to undergo great trials and tribulations. Even
to this day, the Saudi sheikhs of the likes of Al-Kalbani,
the Imam of the Grand Mosque of Makkah, harbor
hatred and venom against the Shi’a of Imam Ali AS
who are indeed the true followers of The Prophet SAWW.
Saidr Al-Sirafi was summoned to the Court of
Haroon Al-Rashid, a tyrannical Abbasid Caliph, in
Baghdad to give evidence in a case. The Qadhi Abu
Yusuf, appointed by the Court, rejected his
evidence because he was “a follower of Ali Ibni
Abi Talib.” Al-Sarafi wept profusely at this
injustice.
We ask Qadhi Abu Yusuf: Was Ali Ibni Talib AS not
the “Nafsul Rrasul SAWW”? Was not Ali Ibni
Talib AS the only one selected by The Prophet SAWW
to represent “Anfusana” at Mubahila
(Imprecation), when there were so many other
Awwashil Madinah (residents of Madinah) present?
This Qadhi will have to answer ALLAH SWT too.
Also, we ask was Fatimatu Zzahraa AS the only one
chosen as “Nisaaana”, when The Prophet SAWW
had so many other women, his wives, for example,
to choose from? It was divine will that only Ali
AS and Fatima AS and their two sons, Al-Hassan AS
and Al-Hussein AS should go out to do Mubahila
that the Christians of Najran retreated from. The
leader of the Najran Christians was more
knowledgeable about the Ahlul Bayt AS than the
so-called Muslim caliphs. This leader had told his
delegation that if The Prophet SAWW came with the
people of Madinah they would do Mubahila
with him, but if he came only with his family they
should not do Mubahila because these five faces
could move mountains and the Najranis did not want
to risk the l’anah of ALLAH SWT. And Fatima AS was
one of the five.
The Tragedy of Karbala has gone down in the annals
of history as the greatest tragedy ever
perpetrated upon the Ahlul Bait of The Prophet
SAWW. It was not the first one, though. The first
tragedy was perpetrated when the burning door fell
on Fatima AS and cause her son’s miscarriage and
her death. In Madinah in 11 AH, Fatima AS was
fatally attacked by so-called Muslims and in
Karbala her son, Imam Hussein AS was similarly
fatally attacked by so-called Muslims. Fatima AS’
door in Madinah was set on fire in 11 AH and
Zainab AS’ tents were set on fire in 61 AH in
Karbala.
Who is Fatimah AS? She is the inhabitant of the
house at which for six months after the revelation
of 33:33, The Prophet SAWW would every single day
salute and say: Assalamu Alaikum ya Ahlal Baiti
Nnubuwwah”. The Prophet SAWW would not enter
Fatima AS’ house sans seeking her consent. And yet
Muslim caliphs who assumed the mantle of The
Prophet SAWW shamelessly stormed this house!!!
Fatima AS is Al-Kawthar (Abundant goodness)
mentioned in The Qur’an (Chapter 108), because it
was through her sons, Al-Hasan AS and Al-Hussein
AS that the progeny of The Prophet SAWW continued
and multiplied, while true to the promise of ALLAH
SWT, The Prophet SAWW’s enemies have become
abtar (tail-less i.e. without any progeny).
Why did Imam Ali AS witness all these atrocities
and remain silent? Imam Ali AS’ silence and
patience in the face of these inhumane, cruel and
unjust acts was in obedience of the command of The
Prophet SAWW. These atrocities: usurpationl of his
rightful caliphate, physical cruelty against
Fatima AS and confiscation of personal property of
Fatima AS, Fadak were foreseen by The prophet SAWW.
Thus, Fatima AS called not Ali AS but Fiddha AS
for help when she was struck by the door because
Imam Ali AS had told her of the command of The
Prophet SAWW. Imam Ali AS did not want to cause
factions among Muslims and sacrificed all this in
obedience to The Prophet SAWW. Indeed, Imam Ali AS
had to bear further calamity of his evidence being
rejected in the case of Fadak. His evidence alone,
if evidence was really needed at all because
Fatimatu Zzahraa AS was “Siddiqatu Ttahiirah”
should have sufficied because The Prophet SAWW
declared categorically that Truth was with Ali and
Ali was with the truth and then he prayed to ALLAH
SWT “O ALLAH, send Truth to where Ali is”. Once
Imam Ali AS asked Abu Bakr if there were two
witnesses to a case would he accept the evidence?
Abu Bakr replied in the affirmative. Imam Ali AS
challenged him why he had rejected the evidence of
witnesses whose truthfulness was testified by
ALLAH SWT Himself in Ayatu Ttatheer (33:33)? These
witnesses, testified by ALLAH SWT Himself were
Imam Ali AS, and Imam Hassan AS and Imam Hussein
AS. Besides, there was the testimony of Umm Ayman
also. Yet, Abu Bakr rejected them all on flimsy
pretext and confiscated Fadak that brought revenue
of around 70,000 dirhams to Fatima AS, the
daughter of Hadhrat Khadija AS, that she did not
spend on herself, but for the welfare of indigent
Muslims.

Ayatullah Bahjati R.A (who passed away in Qum
recently. Ayatullah Behjat was a great Marj’a and
an “Aarif. Sheikh fadhel Al-Sahlani in his tribute
to Ayatullah Behjat on Thursday, 26 Jamadiul Ulaa/May
21, 2009 at Imam Al-Khoei Islamic Center, New
York, inter alia, explained that Ayatullah Behjat
was a great scholar who was not very well known
because of his modesty and integrity. When a
publisher asked him for permission to publish his
lectures, Ayatullah behjat laid two conditions;
firstly, his lectures would be published verbatim
and secondly, his name would not appear on the
publication. Also, Ayatullah Behjat, said Sheikh
Sahlani, used to sleep immediately after Salaatul
Maghribain in the dark. It was discovered that the
Ayatullah was so poor that he caould not afford
oil for his lamp to enable him to stay up at
night. This is the type of life that our Aimmah AS
used to live and Ayatullah Behjat was a living
example for us to emulate. May Allah SWT rest his
soul amongst the proximity of Ahlulbayt.
His famous advice to youths:
1.‘to read and practise one hadith daily from the
Chapter of Jihad al-nafs in Wasail al-Shi’a of
Shaykh Hurr al-Amili
2.“In order to achieve absolute control of one’s
thoughts in salat, and to acquire presence of
heart, the groundwork must begin outside and prior
to salat. One must control one’s fives senses
during the day and be careful about what he allows
himself to observe, hear, eat etc. This will
enable him to achieve presence of mind and heart
in salat.
1. To a young student, he said in reply to the
same question, “Never knowingly let you thoughts
drift away from God in salat.”
2. Trust and reliance on Allah swt
Ayatullah Misbah narrates that Agha Behjat once
said to him:
“One day I was sitting in my room and could
hear the voices in the street outside. I went out
and saw that my neighbour’s son was playing in the
street when a beggar approached him saying, “I am
a needy person. Can you please go into your house
and get something for me?”
The boy replied, “Why don’t you ask your mother if
you want something?” The beggar said, “I don’t
have a mother. You go and ask your mother to give
me something.”
Agha Behjat remarked, “I was struck by this
conversation and the innocence of the child who
had so much trust and faith in his mother that he
felt that she could solve any problem. And then he
said, ‘If only we could develop the same absolute
trust and reliance on Allah swt that this child
had in his mother. Indeed all our problems would
be solved if only we sincerely turned to Him for
all our needs!”
3. If we constantly think of Imam-eZamana (A.S.),would
he not think of us?
4. best tabligh is not that which is delivered
from pulpits, but that which is demonstrated by
conduct.
5. The great and special bounties of Allah are
available freely to all His true servants, the
only requirement is that a person has to qualify
for these gifts. The only way to qualify for
these special favours is by abandoning the
disobedience of Allah swt.
6. Goodness and true success will only come from
refraining from sin.
7. To attain proximity to Imam e Zamana AJFWT stay
away from sins and pray on time.
8. Staying awake at Fajr in act of worship.
9. Start your journey to the person who loves you
the most - Allah SWT- yearn for him!
10. Control your tongue and temper
11. Being in state of constant dhikr. If you
recite “La Ilaha Illallah”, you dont even need to
move your lips .
12. Not Considering one’s own Virtuous Deeds as
‘Significant’
13. Getting the Seal of Approval of Imam al-Asr
(AF) - always ask yourself if your speech, conduct,
attitude and actions would please your Imam.
14. Improve your knowledge - it is the the means
to achive proximity to Allah SWT. Dont argue just
for the sake of arguing. Dont judge others
15. Recite duas - du’a governs the outcome of
every stage of our lives

STATEMENT AGAINST
GRATUITOUS STATEMENT OF THE IMAM OF THE GRAND
MOSQUE OF MAKKAH IN THE KINGDOM OF SAUDI ARABIA
BROADCAST ON BBC ARABIC SERVICE
The Imam Al-Khoei Benevolent Foundation,
representing the Shi’a Muslims, wishes to put on
record its profound disappointment and protest
against the gratuitous and inflammatory statement
made by the recently appointed Imam of Masjidul
Haraam in Makkah, Sheikh Adel Al-Kalbani.
The Sheikh’s irresponsible, indefensible and
unIslamic statement against Shi’a Muslims is a
direct contradiction and mockery of His Majesty
King Abdullah’s recent conciliatory declarations
of Muslim brotherhood and tolerance of one
another’s tenets of faith. Indeed, in his recent
visit to the United Nations in New York, the King
made a call for respect of all faiths and their
followers, both Muslims and non-Muslims.
Moreover, the Amman Declaration of 28th Jumada I-2
Jumada II 1427/24-28 June 2006, to which
representatives from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia
were signatories, clearly stated that
“Whosoever is the
adherent of…. the two Shi’i schools of Islamic
Jurisprudence(Ja’fari and Zaydi)….., is a Muslim.”
The repercussions of the statement by the Imam of
The Grand Mosque of Makkah would be the loss of
innocent lives and intensification of hatred
between Muslims which is clearly undesirable to
Saudi Arabia and the peace-loving people of the
world.
The Imam Al-Khoei Benevolent Foundation,
therefore, hopes that the King will take firm
measures against such statements and send a clear
message to the world that the Royal Kingdom of
Saudi Arabia does not advocate policies of takfir.

flu prevention tips provided by the Centers for
Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) include:
1) Cover your nose and
mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze.
Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it.
2) Wash your hands
often with soap and water, especially after you
cough or sneeze. Alcohol-based hands cleaners are
also effective.
3)
Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Germs
spread that way.
4) Try to avoid close
contact with sick people.
5) If you get sick,
CDC recommends that you stay home from work or
school and limit contact with others to keep from
infecting them.
Worshipers who
develop flu-like symptoms should be strongly
encouraged to seek medical advice by phone and to
self-isolate themselves in their homes.
